Patricia Whitfield

I have been teaching English to international students and professionals for sixteen years. After completing my MA in Applied Linguistics at the University of Bath, I worked in English language schools for eight years before establishing my private practice. I hold CELTA and DELTA qualifications and am a registered ETS TOEFL iBT examiner.

My expertise spans three areas: exam preparation (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge), business English for corporate professionals, and academic English for researchers and postgraduate students. In each area, I bring a level of rigour and personalisation that distinguishes my teaching from generic language courses.

My TOEFL preparation programme is particularly effective. I have developed proprietary materials that target the specific skills and strategies needed for each section of the test. My students achieve an average score improvement of 22 points, and several have reached scores above 110.

For business professionals, I offer communication skills training that goes beyond vocabulary and grammar. I teach presentation skills, negotiation language, email etiquette, and cross-cultural communication. My corporate clients include executives at multinational companies who need to communicate with precision and confidence in English.
