I spent fifteen years as a university lecturer in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at Cambridge before retiring to focus on private tutoring. My research background is in quantum field theory and condensed matter physics, and I bring that depth of understanding to every lesson I teach.
Over twenty-two years I have taught thousands of students at every level, from enthusiastic GCSE pupils to PhD candidates. I know the Cambridge Natural Sciences Tripos inside out, and I have extensive experience preparing applicants for the Physics and Natural Sciences interviews.
My method is Socratic. I ask questions that lead students to discover principles for themselves rather than simply telling them answers. This builds the kind of deep, flexible understanding that examination boards reward with top marks and that persists long after the exam is over.
I am selective about the students I take on - not because I require high ability, but because I require genuine curiosity and willingness to work. If you bring those qualities, I will help you achieve results you did not think possible.
“Good tutor overall. Solid knowledge and clear explanations. Sometimes goes a bit fast but happily repeats when asked. Decent value.”
“Very professional and well-prepared. My grades improved significantly after just a few sessions. The structured approach makes all the difference.”
“Patient and encouraging, even when I struggled with the basics. Never made me feel judged. Genuinely invested in my progress.”
“The best maths tutor I have ever had. Clear explanations, challenging exercises, and a knack for making difficult concepts click. Five stars easily.”
