I hold an MA in English Literature from the University of Exeter, where I specialised in contemporary fiction and creative writing. For four years I have been tutoring English literature and creative writing to students ranging from GCSE to university level.
My approach to literature is text-centred and analytical. I teach students to read closely, identify narrative techniques, and construct arguments about texts that are both original and well-supported. Whether we are studying Shakespeare, Austen, or contemporary poetry, the skills are the same: careful attention to language and confident, structured argumentation.
For creative writing, I combine craft workshops with constructive feedback on students' work. I cover prose fiction, poetry, life writing, and screenwriting, always focusing on the fundamental elements: voice, structure, imagery, and revision. Students develop their unique writing voice while learning the craft techniques that distinguish good writing from great.
I prepare GCSE and A-level English Literature students for examinations, support university students with essay writing and dissertation planning, and mentor aspiring writers working on personal projects. My feedback is always honest, detailed, and constructive.
