Alistair MacGregor

I hold an MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glasgow and have been tutoring physics and mathematics for seven years. My engineering background means I can show students how theoretical concepts apply to real-world problems, which makes the material more engaging and memorable.

I work primarily with Scottish Higher and Advanced Higher students, though I also tutor GCSE, A-level, and first-year university students. I have a thorough understanding of the SQA curriculum and examination format, and I know exactly what markers are looking for in written responses.

My teaching style is structured and methodical. I break complex problems into manageable steps, teach systematic problem-solving strategies, and build confidence through graduated practice. I find that many students who think they are bad at physics are actually just missing one or two key conceptual building blocks.

Every student gets a personalised study plan after our first session, with clear targets and milestones. I track progress carefully and adjust the plan as needed. My goal is not just to help students pass their exams but to give them a genuine understanding they can build on.
