Thomas Ashworth

I hold a PhD in Machine Learning from the University of Cambridge and spent four years as a research scientist at DeepMind working on reinforcement learning. Prior to that, I was a lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh for three years. I have been involved in AI research and education for twelve years.

My time at DeepMind gave me hands-on experience with the most advanced AI systems in the world. I have published in NeurIPS, ICML, and ICLR, and I have supervised dozens of Master's and PhD students. This combination of cutting-edge research and extensive teaching experience is what I bring to my tutoring.

I work with a select group of students: PhD candidates in machine learning, senior data scientists wanting to deepen their theoretical understanding, and ambitious undergraduates preparing for research careers. My sessions are rigorous and mathematically grounded — we do not just run experiments, we understand why they work.

I also offer a popular intensive course on reinforcement learning, covering everything from multi-armed bandits to deep RL and RLHF. It is the same material I taught at Edinburgh, condensed into a ten-session private format.
